KW Roundtable: Engineering Career Development

Engineering leadership can feel like a lonely journey filled with painful challenges. But the truth is you’re not alone! We’re creating a place for local engineering leaders to come together, share challenges, gain outside perspectives, and become better leaders.

This is an opportunity to network with engineering leaders in Kitchener-Waterloo to exchange invaluable insights, get peer coaching and discover solutions to your challenges in a roundtable format.

Topics for the Engineering Career Development theme will include:

1. Individual Contributor vs Management Track Helping engineers navigate the choice between technical leadership and people management, creating viable senior IC paths, and supporting transitions in both directions.
2. Mentoring & Sponsorship Programs Building effective mentoring relationships, the difference between mentoring and sponsorship, and creating systems that support career growth across all levels.
3. Performance Management & Feedback Conducting meaningful performance reviews, giving actionable feedback, setting growth-oriented goals, and handling difficult performance conversations.
4. Managing Your Own Leadership Development Developing skills beyond your technical expertise, finding mentors and peer networks as a senior leader, staying technically relevant while taking on strategic responsibilities, and creating your own growth plan when traditional career paths become less defined.
