Benny Xian
Founder @ Project AI+Compassion

Benny Xian is a tech entrepreneur, investor, and accidental founder of Project AI+C with the purpose to inspire us to build tech ventures with impact and purpose. Project AI+C was born out of the need for compassionate leadership which is the foundation for trust, conscious business, and stakeholder capitalism. Benny has invested and co-founded a number of tech ventures - one of which was acquired by Salesforce. Like many of us in engineering, Benny went through multiple transitions personally and professionally from being totally analytically driven as an engineer (Stanford MSEE) to being compassionate as a human. Chip Conley
Founder @ MEA

Chip Conley is a hospitality entrepreneur and New York Times bestselling author. His book, Wisdom@Work: The Making of a Modern Elder, forms the core of MEA’s curriculum and is inspired by his experience - as both a mentor and an intern (“Mentern”) - when he was well into his 50s, as Airbnb’s Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy. What no CV (or Chip) will tell you (but he was overruled by his team) is that his greatest assets are his kindness and generosity, his care for the people he works with, and his infectious laugh.

SUMMARY

What makes a great leader? For many of us with engineering and science backgrounds, leadership is critical as we transition from building technology to building teams. It is often a difficult transition because we have to switch from being analytical to being humans.

In this talk, Chip will share with us wisdom from his experience of building the U.S.'s second largest boutique hotel company Joie de Vivre Hospitality, being a “mentern” at Airbnb working with co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky, and now helping more than 2,000 mid-lifers with life transitions through MEA. Chip brings an insightful perspective for us in tech because of his background in business and psychology. We will talk about his books including Wisdom@Work. We will learn about why Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is so relevant to leadership. We will leave this talk inspired to lead with wisdom and compassion.
